About Me

I am a PhD student in international relations, with a specialization in international development, at the School of International Service at American University in Washington, DC. My research interests are in foreign aid and governance. I completed my undergrad at the University of Ottawa in the international development and globalization program.

This blog was created to give me one centralized place to hold my online self. The posts are not on a schedule and reflect my transient interests.

I post both academic and more personal content regularly on twitter.

I also post photos I shot and music I am enjoying online.

A note on the design

This was my first attempt at writing CSS and my first tumblr theme. The theme was created over ten days in March 2008 while I was living in Mohandessin, a neighbourhood in Cairo. I wrote the CSS and HTML using TextMate and CSSEdit. I created all of the graphics in Pixelmator. The title font is Sketch Rockwell.

The theme was tested for visual consistency in Safari 3, Google Chrome (beta), Firefox 2 and 3 for Mac and Windows, and Camino for Mac. I tweaked the page to increase IE7 and IE8 (beta) usability, but I didn’t test on previous versions of IE. I recommend that you try using Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. You will thank me later.

I would appreciate it if you asked me before using or adapting my theme. I also welcome any feedback on content or design. My email address is this-site-URL @gmail.com.

Miscellany

On Jun 19, 2009 I started using Amazon Affiliate links on books and media that I really like. I am hoping that this can help me buy more books that I really like. It also introduces a conflict of interest, so I felt that I should disclose it publicly.
