I was doing a little web work when I realized that a lot of the program I used had similar icons. After scanning through my applications, I realized I realized that the icons for TextMate, Pixelmator, Pathway, RapidWeaver, and CSSEdit were nearly identical in form. All are just takes on the TextEdit icon (the first one in the list).
Pathway is free, so I understand not spending big bucks on the icon. I believe Pixelmator is the most recent application, and thus the most guilty party. I understand the advantages of consistency in icon design, but I think these just push it too far.
Is there something in the HIG mandating this? What is going on?
